Iberian zooarchaeology meeting 2017
Venue: Universidade do Algarve | City: Faro, Portugal
In the last decade, zooarchaeology has seen exceptional theoretical and methodological advances. The number of scientists dedicated to this discipline in Iberia has increased exponentially, resulting in a significant collection of works focused on a variety of fauna materials from different periods and with diversified approaches.
The richness and diversity of these works has been difficult to follow, prompting the necessity of events to facilitate the exchange of data and establish working networks. The main objective of this meeting, therefore, is to promote the interchange of information and collaboration between colleagues (zooarchaeologists and interdisciplinary collaborators) who work on materials from Portugal and Spain. It is our firm belief that borders should not exist in science.
Oral presentations and posters submitted to EZI2017 should focus on Iberian materials or sites, with the exclusion of presentations that are largely theoretical or methodological. The main topics to address are:
Animals as paleoenvironmental proxy.
Exploitation of raw animal materials.
Human diets and animal resources.
Improvement of animal species.
Interdisciplinary approaches in zooarchaeology.
Theory and methods in zooarchaeology.
We kindly invite you to the first Iberian Zooarchaeology Meeting (Encontro de Zooarqueologia Ibérica – EZI2017), in association with the 5th Iberian Peninsula Archaeo-malacology Scientific Meeting (5ª Reunião Científica de Arqueomalacologia da Península Ibérica – 5RCAPI). This is a joint effort of two events developing zooarchaeological themes: one with a broader subject, another focused mainly on archaeomalacological materials.
Both meetings will be held at the University of Algarve (Campus de Gambelas), Faro, Portugal, from April 26th to 29th of 2017.
- From 26 Apr 2017 to 29 Apr 2017
